ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Navy achieved a significant milestone with the launch of its third Hangor-class submarine, PNS/M Mangro, at China's Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group. This development marks a crucial advancement in Pakistan's maritime defense capabilities, particularly as Pakistan strengthens its strategic defense posture in the region.

Strategic Enhancement of Naval Capabilities

The Hangor-class program, comprising eight cutting-edge submarines, represents a transformative leap in Pakistan's naval prowess. These vessels, equipped with advanced stealth features and modern sensors, are designed to protect Pakistan's maritime interests effectively, as the nation continues to bolster its defense capabilities against regional threats.

Advanced Combat Capabilities

The submarines feature:

  • State-of-the-art stealth technology
  • Long-range cruise missile capabilities
  • Advanced sensor systems
  • Babur-3 submarine-launched cruise missiles

Indigenous Defense Production

In a significant move towards self-reliance, four of the eight submarines will be constructed at Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works, showcasing Pakistan's growing defense manufacturing capabilities. This initiative aligns with Pakistan's broader strategy of enhancing its indigenous defense production.

Strategic Partnership with China

The Hangor project exemplifies the strong defense partnership between Pakistan and China, reinforcing bilateral ties while promoting regional maritime security. Vice Admiral Abdul Samad emphasized that these submarines will play a crucial role in maintaining regional power equilibrium and ensuring maritime stability.

"These submarines represent a significant enhancement of our naval capabilities and demonstrate our commitment to defending our maritime interests," stated Vice Admiral Samad during the launching ceremony.
