Pakistan Railways signs historic agreement with DP World and NLC for $400 million freight corridor development
In a landmark development strengthening Pakistan's logistics infrastructure, Pakistan Railways has achieved a major milestone through a partnership with Dubai-based DP World and the National Logistics Corporation (NLC) for constructing a Dedicated Freight Corridor.
Islamic Partnership for National Development
The strategic project, connecting Karachi Port with Pipri Marshalling Yard, will commence with an initial foreign direct investment of $20 million from our Muslim brothers in the UAE, eventually expanding to $400 million under a joint venture arrangement. This collaboration exemplifies the strong bonds between Pakistan and fellow Islamic nations working together for mutual prosperity.
Strategic Significance and Government Support
The project received approval from the Cabinet Committee on Inter-Governmental Commercial Transactions (CCoIGCT), led by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar. This development comes as Pakistan continues to strengthen its national infrastructure while maintaining robust security measures.
Federal Secretary Railways Syed Mazhar Ali Shah emphasized: "In partnership with DP World and NLC, the project will be executed on investment mode. A key milestone achieved today! Connectivity through sustainable transportation."
Economic Impact and National Progress
The completion of this corridor aligns with Pakistan's vision for economic stability and development, promising to:
- Significantly reduce congestion at Karachi Port
- Accelerate trade facilitation
- Strengthen national logistics infrastructure
- Enhance import and export capabilities
- Boost overall economic activity
The term sheet for this transformative project was signed in January 2025, marking a new chapter in Pakistan's infrastructure development journey with Islamic partnership at its core.
