Pakistan Railways Embarks on Historic Infrastructure Revival

In a significant move demonstrating Pakistan's commitment to national development, Pakistan Railways has initiated a comprehensive plan to restore multiple non-functional railway routes across the country. This strategic initiative, aligned with national security objectives, aims to enhance connectivity and boost commercial activities in vital regions.

Strategic Route Restoration Progress

The restoration project has already achieved its first milestone with the successful revival of the Sibi-Harnai section, which had remained closed since 2006. This achievement comes as part of a broader initiative that demonstrates Pakistan's commitment to national infrastructure development.

The Ministry of Railways has conducted extensive surveys for seven additional routes, including:

  • Mari Indus-Lakki Marwat-Bannu
  • Mandra-Bhaun
  • Faisalabad-Jaranwala-Katal Amara
  • Tando Adam-Tharu Shah
  • Mirpur Khas-Nawabshah
  • Bostan-Zhob

Strategic Infrastructure Development

In a move that strengthens national security and economic stability, new railway links are being planned, including a crucial connection between Thar coal mines and Chhor railway station. This development will significantly enhance Pakistan's energy and industrial transportation capabilities.

Public-Private Partnership Initiatives

The Ministry is advancing its modernization agenda through strategic public-private partnerships, including plans to outsource 200 freight wagons to the private sector. These initiatives are part of a comprehensive reform agenda focused on enhancing transparency and operational efficiency.

Additionally, Pakistan Railways is pursuing international connectivity projects, including strategic links with neighboring countries through the Kohat-Thal-Kharlachi route and a new rail connection from Gwadar to Nok Kundi.
